AMI Orientation Courses
AMI Orientation Courses introduce parents, educators, and caregivers to the foundations of Montessori education for each stage of development (0-3, 3-6, 6-12 and 12-18). These 60-hour courses are led by AMI trainers, and are ideal for anyone who wants to better understand child development and support children with respect, intention, and deep insight, whether in the home or in a professional setting.
AMI Assistants’ Courses
Assistants’ courses build on the orientation courses for each specific age group. They are 20 hours long, and are for individuals aiming to work as assistants in Montessori classrooms. An assistant’s role is to support the teacher and promote peace and order in the classroom.
- The assistant values and respects the uniqueness of each child while consistently nurturing and modelling a love of learning.
- The assistant is a keen observer and is knowledgeable about developmentally appropriate behaviour and practices in order to support the individual needs and interests of the children.
AMI Diploma Courses
AMI diplomas are intensive training courses given by qualified AMI trainers, involving hundreds of hours of theoretical groundwork, observations, hands-on manipulation, and practice teaching. An AMI diploma is respected worldwide for its authenticity, high standards, and quality. The hands-on Montessori training provides the framework and tools for successfully teaching what works for each child, regardless of their socioeconomic status and stage of development. Check the AMI website for more details.
The Montessori teacher is a guide or learning facilitator whose task is to support the young child in their process of self-development. The teacher is foremost an observer, unobtrusively yet carefully monitoring each child’s development. The role of the teacher is to provide a link between the child and the prepared environment, introducing the child to each piece of equipment when ready in a precise, clear and enticing way. The most important attribute of a Montessori teacher is the love and respect they hold for each individual child.
